And Don't Forget the Sausages

Bad planning (life gets in the way sometimes) I found myself without my usual on line grocery delivery slot this weekend. Undeterred, I headed off to my local budget supermarket early this morning, recycled bags in hand, ready to bag a bargain. But I forgot the sausages. Carrots - tick, potatoes - tick, cabbage - tick, but no sausages

Another trip seemed unavoidable.

Supermarket weary and high street fatigued the countryside beckoned. A few miles in the car and we had arrived in shopaphobic's heaven - the village high street. A renowned butchers with wicker baskets, daffodils for 5Op and locally produced sausages... sorted. Further along the main street we found an on trend independent shop selling cards. Mother's Day... sorted.

Leaving the village we headed for an hour long walk along the canal path. With brilliant sunlight suspended low in the sky winter dissolved to a distant memory. The birdsong was amazing; I never knew robins were so noisy and so desperate for attention. Friendly barge dwellers and dog walkers kept us buoyant and the ripple of the water and the tweets from the birds were instantly calming.

I'm glad I forgot the sausages.

Ipad sketch: from memory by hubs.

  2. What a lovely story. Walking is one of my favourite things in the whole world and that canal path looks so beautiful and peaceful!

  3. Lovely post. I'm lucky enough that the kind of jaunt that you described is the type of shopping that I do in the small Devon towns that surround me (give or take a weekly supermarket trip at off peak hours). However, yesterday I wrote about how a 'proper' shopping trip was needed in a big town and it left me feeling knackered and defeated! x

  8. We ditched the supermarket this weekend and headed into town. You're so right about all the things you notice. I saw details on buildings I'd rushed past before, had a chat with a coffee shop owner and found out about a fab bakery, petted many cute dogs and had a little detour to the beach. Loved it.
