Hello. A quick post today. I've just got in from the first session of a new community choir being set up by our local Arts organisation. We already have a performance lined up at a local music festival in July. No cost, no auditions and no requirement to read music. Just an opportunity to join with others, enjoy learning new songs, pick up some singing tips and have some fun. I've learnt so much in one evening and have had a great time. Singing songs by Emeli Sandé, Jessie J, Take That and Labi Siffre amongst others is great for the soul and mood. I love singing but wouldn't normally think about joining a choir so this was an opportunity not to be missed.

How about you? Any choir members out there?

  1. Hi Clare - I'm a singer too and our choir is pretty laid back with just words rather than sheet music. Great way to relax and we enjoy performing too. Check us out on YouTube - Songsmiths Chester! Good luck with your choir.

  2. Hi, thanks for the link I will definitely check you out. The warm-up was very much about relaxing and breathing deeply and I did feel myself over the course of the evening. Just what I need after a day at work xo

  3. Ooh, I'm pretty envious there - I love singing! The only time we tried joining a choir here, it was a real bind, they have to have a registered society, you have to pay (quite high) fees and for the music and then you had to take part in their fundraiser, which for me meant being a waitress till 4 in the morning, not my cup of tea at all :(( Although it enabled us to meet the senior generation ofnthe village we were living in (we were at least 30 years younger than everyone else!), the repertoire was then mostly older hiking songs the others had known since childhood... and a rather strange version of Yellow Submarine! Most members (and the conductor) didn't speak English, so when they dared try a gospel, we all had to sing things like "tomB", emphasising the 'B'!!!
We gave up eventually, as our family was still very young and we just didn't have the time for the commitment they wanted... I would love to just go and sing once a week with a fun reperttoire!!! Ah well, it'll just have to be in the shower, then LOL

  4. I'd love to be in a choir I love singing, when I was little I was asked by the choir mistress to leave, she said perhaps it wasn't my 'thing'! I was rather loud and out of tune! :) x

  6. I would so love to be able to sing, but alas I just can't, it's horrible! Glad you have found such a great (free) thing to do, I can well imagine that it is great for the soul.
