About

Welcome!

Amongst other things this is a minimalist blog for the UK. I'm interested in minimalism for the real world, minimalism that anyone can try; I believe that minimalism can improve the quality of your life.

I'm Claire, fifty years old and married with two sons (one currently working overseas and one who's just about to start university). I live in Staffordshire, UK and I've been reading blogs since 2010 after first becoming interested in minimalism and simple living.

My blog celebrates the simple pleasures in life such as nature, home cooking and family time. Here you'll find glimpses into other people's minimalist homes and tips on saving money. I love stylish interiors and clothes - but on a budget and I try and buy ethically and second hand where possible.

Now don't get confused, I'm not an EXTREME minimalist (I still have cupboards to sort out) but I'm gradually simplifying my life and know that acquiring less means that I value what I have more. After downsizing and changing to part-time work in my late forties, I now aim to 'work to live' and cherish every day.

I do hope you can join me on my journey, drop by from time to time and leave me a comment.

  1. I found your blog today, looking for inspiration for less cluttered life style. I like more minimalist style and lots of white on white but my husband (bless him) loves traditional and dark colours and truck load of pine (sigh). I was looking through your pictures and reading your posts, very lovely. But I happen to see one beautiful picture you have of some Queen Anne Lace in snow, Im an artist and not only do I love the flower but I take pictures of it through out the seasons and never seen such a lovely one. I love the style of it and I was wondering if I could use your picture as an inspiration for a painting/drawing?

    Cheers,

  2. Hi Claire. I love the motivation behind your blog...working to a more simple way of living in terms of saving money and style on a budget. I'm with you all the way on that one! Your 'desk corner' is a prime example of how you can create a beautiful space without it costing an arm and a leg. All it takes is a little effort and imagination and willingness to accept that something inexpensive doesn't have to be a compromise!

  7. Hello. I wondered where you are in Staffordshire, you mentioned paddling in the Trent. I am from Burton upon Trent, now living in North Lincolnshire, but still on the Trent.

  8. Hello Claire,
Great Blog. I will make like a magpie and steal some of these shiny treasures of information.

They will be very useful as I am about to take a duck dive in to minimalist living myself.

I am about to give up my 'normal' life in Surrey and go to live in a rickety old shack at the bottom of Mount Snowdon in north wales with a little sustainable community who run an Eco-Retreat centre called Cae Mabon.

I will take some of your simple pleasure suggestions (and recipes) with me.

If you would like to know more about the project - and maybe pop by if you are ever in the area!

  9. Hi Claire,

I've recently discovered minimalism and come across your site. I'm 27 years old and spent the best part of my adult life in a consumerist stupor. Discovering minimalism has been enlightening, and has helped me to begin living a life that is meaningful to me.

Thank you for sharing your experiences as a minimalist. I also believe that minimalism can improve the quality of your life. With so much discontent in the world, and with the youth of today facing a future epidemic of mental health issues, I think it's so important that we share our journies into minimalism, and show the local community at large that there is another recipe to life.

It's also good to know that there are minimalists that live nearby (I also live in Staffordshire). I've added your site to my news feed, and I look forward to reading all of your past and future articles.

    Warm regards,

    Josh
